A juvenile in a stolen vehicle has led the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed pursuit into Butler County.

Sunday afternoon at approximately 12:30, Grayson County Sgt. Fred Norder was informed that a Honda Accord stolen out of Ohio County was located at Caney Creek Apartments, at 509 Morgantown Street. Law enforcement was able to track the vehicle via GPS.

As Norder approached the Honda, the 17-year-old male driver fled south on Hwy 79 with Norder in pursuit. With speeds reaching 100 miles per hour, a passenger in the Honda, 18-year-old Aaron Crowe, of Beaver Dam, tossed large pieces of wood at Norder’s cruiser as he continued to chase the suspects.

The pursuit entered Butler County and continued until the 400 block of Hwy 79 (Caneyville Road) when a Morgantown police officer performed a PIT maneuver. The suspects, leaving the car in gear and in the middle of the road, then fled on foot.

A Butler County deputy and Morgantown officer chased and caught the juvenile driver, with Norder pursuing and catching Crowe, who resisted and fought with Norder, resulting in the deputy breaking a finger and twisting an ankle.

Crowe was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where he has been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing or evading police (on foot), receiving stolen property, assault (police officer), resisting arrest, and two counts of criminal mischief.

The juvenile, only five days from his 18th birthday, is facing multiple felony charges and was lodged in a juvenile detention facility in Bowling Green. He was also served with an arrest warrant.

Additional charges for both suspects are possible.

Norder was treated at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

The Morgantown Fire Department, Butler County EMS, Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins, and Grayson County Deputy Rick Mehlbauer responded and assisted at the scene.
