A semi-truck has slammed into a Barren County church.

Tuesday morning at approximately 5:30, the Barren County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Eight-Eight community after a Tyson Foods semi crashed into Refuge Church of Christ, about seven miles east of Glasgow.

The sheriff’s office said 59-year-old Paul Chaplin, of Monticello, fell asleep while driving, causing the truck to leave the roadway and strike the porch of the church, creating two large holes in one side of the building.

Chaplin suffered only minor injuries and refused transport to a hospital.

Church services will be held in an annex while repairs are made to the structure.
