A Clarkson man has been jailed on drug and DUI charges after a traffic stop on North Patterson Street, in Clarkson.

Friday night at approximately 9:50, Clarkson Police Officer Blake Elmore executed a traffic stop on a vehicle with four occupants, and being driven by 43-year-old Chris Newton, in the 400 block of North Patterson Street.

Newton pulled into the driveway of his residence, and upon Elmore approaching the vehicle, Newton refused to show the officer his hands. Police said Newton appeared to be fumbling around in the car, possibly hiding or grabbing something. At gunpoint though, Newton complied and was detained.

Several officers from around the county responded in quick fashion to assist the out-manned Elmore, including Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Zane Greer and Deputies Rick Mehlbauer and Andy Vincent, along with Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officers Eugene Cain and Kelsey Overton.

During the subsequent investigation, police located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. And Newton was determined to be under the influence.

He was arrested and charge with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), DUI (aggravating circumstances), second-degree wanton endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia along with several non-moving violations.

Newton was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

In a coincidence, the residence Newton pulled into was thought to be a home frequented by 32-year-old Anitra Routt, who deputies have been looking for. Mehlbauer, who had a warrant for Routt’s arrest out of Hardin County, located and arrested Routt. She was transported to the Grayson County Detention Center.
