A Hartford man has been jailed on attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, and sodomy charges after physically and sexually abusing his former girlfriend.
Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty said that Monday morning his office responded to a call for help from a female on Hall Lane in Hartford, who told police that she had been assaulted by her former boyfriend, 56-year-old Brian Damron.
Officers arrived at the scene to find the victim with serious physical injuries to her face and body, Beatty said. The victim told authorities the incident occurred late Sunday night when she heard a 4-wheeler outside her house . She went to see who was on the 4-wheeler, and according to Beatty, she was ambushed by Damron, who the victim had taken out an EPO against.
The victim told investigators that Damron, who had a firearm on his person, grabbed and assaulted her. During a struggle, she told police the gun fired twice, but did not strike either the victim or Damron.
Damrom then dragged the victim into a wooded area and physically and sexually assaulted her. He took the victim to his nearby home and continued to abuse and assault the victim throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning.
When Damron fell asleep, the victim made her escape and contacted authorities.
Damron was taken into custody Monday morning at his home.
Beatty said that due to the complexity of the case and the injuries sustained by the victim, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Owensboro Police Department. Owensboro police brought its K-9 officer to the scene to help conduct a property search, with the K-9 locating “several items crucial to the investigation.”
Damron was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree strangulation, and violating an EPO. He was lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
