The Grayson County Detention Center has imposed a temporary stoppage of the facility’s many community work programs due to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns.
“After spending the last several days in consultation with our housing partners on the state and federal level, and other officials in the government and health communities, the Grayson County Detention Center has decided to suspend our community work programs effective at the close of business on Friday, March 13,” Grayson County Jailer Jason Woosley said.
Woosley added, “The move is being undertaken to reduce health risks to the community and the inmate worker population that our housing agencies have entrusted to us. The program will not resume until the risks subside.”
Woosley assured the agencies which “rely heavily on the manpower these programs generate” that the suspension of the work programs will last only as long as necessary.
Describing the move as a “prudent precaution,” Woosley did say that, “If situations arise where the detention center can provide some type of support that does not involve inmate workers, please contact us and we will examine them on a case-by-case basis.”
