Herbert “Hub” Lowrey, 80

Herbert (Hub) Lowrey, 80, passed away at his home in Atlanta, GA, on March 26, 2020.  He was born in Louisville, KY on January 30, 1940.

Herb was a graduate of Leitchfield High School, Class of 1958, where he played basketball and sang in a men’s quartet.  After graduating from Western Kentucky University, he managed the Boys Club of America in Phoenix, Arizona.  He spent the majority of his career in real estate development, along with other entrepreneurial endeavors.

In later years, he completed extensive course studies in creative writing at Phoenix College, Arizona State University, and completed graduate studies in poetry at University of New Orleans in 2007.  His book of poetry, “Heart River Undertow,” an anthology of poems that explore motifs of roots, love & prejudice, was nominated for both the 2008 National Book Award and American Book Award.

Herb (Hub) is survived by his wife Janet of Atlanta, GA, daughter Lisa (Nathan) Moser of Austin, TX, son Alan (Michelle) Lowrey of Eastland, MD, and five grandchildren, Miranda Moser, Aiden, Suzanna, Alaina, and Lucas Lowrey.  Hub is also survived by one sister, Pat Hackley of Clarkson, KY.
