Kentucky’s COVID-19 cases nearing 2,000, 97 deaths

At his Easter Sunday coronavirus (COVID-19) briefing, Gov. Andy Beshear said the state’s confirmed cases of the virus is nearing 2,000.

Beshear said 134 new cases were confirmed between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, increasing Kentucky’s total to 1,963. The governor announced three additional deaths, bringing the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 97 (4.9 percent fatality rate).

The three fatal victims are between 62- and 72-years-old and were from Jefferson, Hopkins and Pike counties.

Beshear said of the 1,963 COVID-19 cases confirmed in Kentucky to date, 667 (34 percent) victims have been hospitalized at some point during the illness, and at least 289 patients are currently hospitalized. A total of 256 patients have been admitted to the ICU, with 136 victims currently being cared for in ICU.

The state has confirmed 300 cases of the virus since Friday night.
