A Meade County woman is behind bars after she tried to kidnap a teenage girl.
A nearly naked Kimberly Phelps, 50, accosted a 14-year-old girl as the girl walked from to a friend’s house. Police said Phelps “jumped out of a small patch of woods and grabbed the juvenile from behind and covered her mouth.” Phelps was only wearing a t-shirt, according to the victim.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office said Phelps told the girl, “I’ve been watching you for awhile.”
Phelps grabbed the victim’s arm and dragged her toward driveway but the girl was able to free herself and run away.
After an investigation, deputies arrested Phelps and charged her with attempted kidnapping (minor) and lodged her in the Meade County Detention Center. She’s being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
During her arrest, Phelps told police she saw the girl and gave her a hug, but denied trying to kidnap the teen.
Police said an intoxicated Phelps was arrested last month after yelling and pushing employees of a retail outlet.
