A Louisville woman been arrested after her mother turned her in for repeatedly going out in public after testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
Kendra A. Burnett, 37, was under a court order to self-quarantine but broke the order at least three times, according to media reports. She was arrested at about 9:00 Monday morning after her mother called police when Burnett went to a Kroger on Second Street, in Louisville near Churchill Downs. Burnett’s mother pointed her daughter out to officers as she left the store.
The store manager told police, after reviewing surveillance video, that Burnett came into close contact with five people. There were 200 people inside the store when Burnett visited, the store manager told police.
Burnett was charged with five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, a felony, and criminal mischief, after she kicked out the taillight of a police cruiser. She was also charged with contempt of court.
Louisville’s health department has required all residents infected with COVID-19 to self-quarantine since March 23.
Jefferson County, with a population of about 770,000, leads the state with nearly 1,200 COVID-19 cases and over 80 deaths.
