Former Breckinridge County Sheriff Todd Pate has pled guilty to a DUI charge that stemmed from a 2019 wreck.

Pate was arrested in March of 2019 in the 9400 block of Hwy 259 in McDaniels after striking a vehicle being driven by a Leitchfield woman.

Kentucky State Police said the preliminary investigation into the accident revealed that the sheriff was driving his personal vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck, when he struck a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis, being driven by Jill Lanning, of Leitchfield. After striking Lanning’s vehicle, Pate’s truck struck a utility pole before coming to rest in a barbwire fence.

The arrest was his second DUI related as he was previously arrested in 2015 in Bowling Green.

According to WXBC, Pate pleaded guilty last week to the DUI charge and two counts of wanton endangerment.

The plea agreement says that the former sheriff must spend 75 days in jail, have his license suspended for 12-months and must participate in a substance abuse program.

Special Judge Janet Crocker gave Pate credit for 46 days served which leaves him with a remainder of 29 days behind bars.

Pate retired as the sheriff of Breckinridge County at the end of February.

He is currently lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
