With school districts, including Grayson County, introducing plans to return this coming fall, some interest is turning as to what the likelihood of high school sports could be.

At their board of control meeting at the end of May, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association made announcements on what practices and conditioning could like throughout the month of June.

On Friday, the KHSAA is scheduled to meet again for the first time publically since making decisions on practicing and conditioning.

In a meeting with the Kentucky Department of Education on Tuesday, commissioner Julian Tackett said, “Right now we are moving along with playing our regular six sports in the fall.”

As most decisions during the pandemic, Tackett reiterated that this could still change depending on what happens with the coronavirus.

He added that as of that moment, the hope was to have 50% capacity for most sporting events with social distancing measures being set in place.

In their reopening plan released on Tuesday, Grayson County Schools said that even students who decide to use online learning will be allowed to participate in extra-curricular activities as long as they meet traditional guidelines.

Currently, the first Grayson County scrimmage/game scheduled is August 3rd for the Lady Cougar Soccer team with football having scrimmages scheduled on August 7th and volleyball on the 11th.
