An intoxicated Leitchfield man arrested for DUI spit on and threatened to kill a Grayson County deputy.
Wednesday night at 6:10, Grayson County Deputy Rick Mehlbauer observed a 2006 Honda Civic “driving very reckless on Falls of Rough Road.” Mehlbauer initiated a traffic stop after the Civic ran another vehicle off the road.
Upon making contact with the driver, 26-year-old Dylan G. Vaught, Mehlbauer noticed the suspect “was very disoriented and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his person,” according to the arrest citation.
Vaught was given a field sobriety test where he “could not stand without staggering from side to side,” and admitted to consuming alcohol and marijuana before driving.
As Mehlbauer attempted to place Vaught in handcuffs, the suspect “became very combative” as he resisted arrest.
After being placed in the cruiser, Vaught began kicking the windows. He continued to remain so combative that Mehlbauer “removed and peppered sprayed” Vaught, the citation reads.
Once at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for a blood draw, “the subject became combative again and had to be leg shackled,” according to the citation.
Vaught then spit on Mehlbauer, the citation says, and threatened to kill his family.
Vaught was charged with DUI, third-degree assault (of a police officer, communicable bodily fluid), resisting arrest, and third-degree terroristic threatening. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
