Two people have been injured after a vehicle struck a cow on the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Sunday night at approximately 9:45, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder and Deputy Mark Johnson, the Caneyville Fire Department and EMS responded to the near the 88 mile marker of the eastbound parkway (just inside Butler County) after a Pontiac G6, being driven by 21-year-old Collin McCrocklin, of Beaver Dam, struck a fully grown cow.

Norder was already on scene when the accident occurred, after being informed by Grayson County Central Dispatch that a cow was in the roadway. When the G6 hit the cow, the vehicle swerved off the road and nearly struck Norder, who was standing in the emergency lane. The vehicle eventually came to rest in the middle of the eastbound parkway after traveling about 50 yards after striking the cow.

McCrocklin and his passenger, 19-year-old Michael Murphy, also of Beaver Dam, were transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by EMS for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The cow that was struck, along with another cow, fell off a trailer Sunday afternoon as they were being transported on the parkway. One of the cows had to be put down, while the cow that was hit Sunday night was taken to a pen not far from the parkway. Apparently, the animal found a way out of the enclosure.

Assisting at the scene were an Ohio County Sheriff’s Office deputy and sergeant.
