Lady Cougars volleyball shuts out Butler County 3-0

The Lady Cougar volleyball team moved to 4-1 on the season Tuesday with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-17) victory at Butler County.

Senior Chloe Cox led the Lady Cougars with 11 kills, two more than senior Ella Robinson and three more than sophomore Allie Dotson. Senior Brieanna Boll led the team with 27 assists while senior Kenzie Skaggs had eight.

Robinson also led the team with 12 digs while senior Alexis Brown had  six.

Trailing 3-5 in the early going, the Lady Cougars got a couple of aces from Skaggs and a kill and a block from Dotson to take a 7-5 lead, one they would not give back.

The Lady Cougars had a set-point at 24-13 but a service error gave the ball back to the Lady Bears. Following a Lady Bear ace, Skaggs dinked a ball into an empty space to give the Lady Cougars the first-set win.

Trailing 5-6 in the early going, Skaggs took the serve and served six straight points, including an ace, to give the Lady Cougars an 11-6 lead, one they would not give back.

Leading 20-16, Robinson took the serve and served out for the win. Robinson served three aces in the run, including one on set-point, to put the set in the win column.

The Lady Bears raced out to a 1-6 lead in the third set, but with Skaggs serving, came back to take a 7-6 lead.

Leading by three, 17-14, sophomore Lillie Payne served two points to increase the lead to five points, 19-14.

Leading by four points, 21-17, Robinson served out for the win. She started out with an ace, and finished with one as well to polish off the win.
