
An impaired Leitchfield woman is facing charges after having a wreck that resulted in her passenger being airlifted to a trauma center.
Wednesday morning at 3:50, Leitchfield Police Officer DJ Newton, Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer Chance Anthony, the Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded the accident in the 500 block of Sunbeam Road.
Based on marks at the scene, a Chrysler 300, being driven by 55-year-old Linda Williams, left the roadway while driving out of a curve and struck a culvert before hitting an embankment head-on.
A witness followed the vehicle out of a Sunbeam Road neighborhood and notified Central Dispatch that the vehicle was being driven erratically. Just as the witness told dispatch the vehicle was going to crash, the Chrysler left the roadway.
The passenger, Theresa Howard, 58, also of Leitchfield, who was not wearing a seat belt, was unconscious when police and EMS arrived on scene and was later airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital with a head injury. Williams suffered a broken arm in the crash.
During a search of the vehicle, police located numerous Hydrocodone and other pills.
Williams, who was hospitalized at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, was cited for second-degree wanton endangerment, DUI and having no proof of insurance.
Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Zane Greer assisted at the scene.
