A Hardin County man has been jailed after striking his girlfriend, dragging her by her hair, holding her against her will and assaulting a police officer.

On Saturday morning, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office responded to 473 Morrison Lane, in Cecilia, on the report of a domestic dispute.

Upon arriving at the residence, the suspect, 46-year-old Jason Nugent, of Cecilia, ran out the back door, according to a report by The News-Enterprise. Deputies, who were unable to immediately locate the suspect, determined during the investigation that Nugent began arguing with the victim, with Nugent becoming violent as he struck the victim in the face causing red marks and a bruise over one of the victim’s eyes.

The suspect is also accused of dragging the victim through the home by her hair and threatening her with a hammer. When the victim attempted to call 911, Nugent destroyed her cellphone along with another cellphone in the residence.

Furthermore, Nugent refused to allow the victim to leave the residence “for an extended period of time,” according to the newspaper.

The victim, though, was eventually able to leave the home and call for help.

When law enforcement left the residence after taking the initial report, Nugent returned and kicked in the front door. When deputies again responded, the suspect was found hiding on the roof of the home where he resisted law enforcement by striking one of the deputies in the head, causing an “open tear” on his ear, the newspaper reports.

Nugent was charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, theft by unlawful taking, third-degree terroristic threatening, and interfering with communications.

He is lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $2,500 cash bond.
