Donald Trump’s Transportation Secretary, and wife of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has resigned her position in the aftermath of the riotous insurrection in the nation’s Capitol Wednesday, media outlets report.

She is the first Cabinet member to resign in the wake of Trump’s response to a mob of his supporters storming the Capitol as legislators had gathered to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral college victory over Trump.

Chao assumed office on January 31, 2017. She previously served eight years as Secretary of Labor under George W. Bush.

The 67-year-old Chao, an immigrant from Taiwan, married McConnell in 1993.

Chao also served as director of the Peace Corps (1991-1992) and as president of United Way of America (1992-1996).
