Marie “Granny” Winchel, age 92, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (January 23, 2021) at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes in Leitchfield, KY.
She was born on May 30, 1928 in Walton, KY, the daughter of the late James and Ethel Sturgeon Evans. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a caregiver for many years. She enjoyed working word search puzzle books, spending time with family and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a member of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by one son, Buddy Beach (Missy) of Florence, KY; four daughters, Pam Swift (Allan), Debbie Banet, Cathy Hodge-Englund (Rafael) and Connie Deviney-Blanton (Larry), all of Leitchfield; two step-daughters Becki Winchel and Gale Winchel of Louisville, KY; 14 grandchildren: Chevy Beach, Michael Curry, Billy Beach (Donita), Christina Thompson (Adam), Roy Beach, Amy Mann (Michael), Jeremy Hodge (Chaeli), Tiffany White (Chris), Jesse Banet, Aaron Deviney (Kelli), Micah Hodge Leslie (Dusty), Ryan DeViney, Cody Banet and Shyanna Swift; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Hayden & Millie Petrey; and two former son-in-laws, Butch Hart (Kathy) of Des Arc, AR and Mike Hodge (Sherry) of Leitchfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene R. “High Pockets” Winchel; two brothers, Luke and Richard Evans; two sisters, Shirley Jacobs and Jean Weatherford.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (January 30, 2021) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the Calvert Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
