Expired tags leads to seizure of meth, cash in Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown police arrested a Louisville couple on drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop for expired tags.

Monday night, police observed a 2006 Chevrolet truck, being driven by 48-year-old Robert Burnette, with expired registration tags. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the cab of the truck.

During a search of the vehicle, police located five grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, scales, and cash, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.

Burnette and his passenger and wife, 47-year-old Terri Burnette, were arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Robert Burnette was additionally charged with driving on a suspended/revoked license and no registration plate.

Both suspects were lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center. Terri Burnette was later released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
