On Monday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 530 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours, the fewest cases reported in a single day since early October.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 397,526 (about one case per 11.1 Kentucky residents).

“The trends are going in a positive direction, perhaps the most positive since the pandemic began,” Beshear said. “What that means is that we’re doing a good job. Do I think that vaccines are starting to have an impact? Certainly in the long-term care community. Hopefully we’ll see more of it in the overall state. But we’re seeing more people wearing masks, engaging in social distancing, thinking about the number of contacts they have in their day, and it is working.”

Officials reported 13 COVID-related deaths, raising the state’s death toll to 4,460 (1.2 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped from Sunday’s 6.72 percent to 6.60 percent on Monday.

Hospitalizations decreased by 32 patients to 870, while intensive care admissions fell by 22 to 243. Victims on ventilators dropped by 29 patients to 148.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 18,625 (4.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,888 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 46,779 (11.8 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 4.4 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
