An Elizabethtown man has been arrested after his six-month-old son suffered multiple broken bones over a period of months.

Scott A. Gudgel, 26, admitted to, over the last few months, breaking both of the child’s legs, one of his arms and three ribs.

According to a report by The News-Enterprise, the arrest citation states that the baby “has a broken right lower leg, a broken left tibia and a left fibula in a healing stage. He also had three broken ribs in healing stages and a broken right humerus in a healing stage.”

He was charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Gudgel was charged after the baby’s mother, who, according to police, was not complicit in the injuries, took her child to a hospital after noticing swelling in one of the baby’s ankles. The child was treated for his injuries at Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

The suspect told police that he lost control of his actions on several occasions, resulting in the numerous injuries to the baby.

He is lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
