Two people, including a seven-year-old girl, escaped serious injury after their vehicle flipped on Brandenburg Road as the driver tried to avoid a tree down in the road after high winds roared through the area.
Thursday night at approximately 9:15, the Leitchfield Police Department, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and EMS responded to the 900 block of Brandenburg Road, at the intersection of Lilac Road, after a Chevrolet HHR flipped onto its top while the driver attempted to avoid a large branch (the same size as a small tree).
The male driver, whose identity was not available at the scene, was traveling south on Brandenburg Road when he failed to see a tree across the roadway until it was too late to stop. In an attempt to miss the tree, the driver swerved right, with the Chevy striking an embankment and flipping the car onto its top.
The driver was unhurt, but his seven-year-old female passenger suffered a bloody nose. She was evaluated by EMS and released at the scene.
A large contingent of Leitchfield firefighters made quick work of cutting up and removing the large branch from the roadway, as well as a small tree that fell onto the northbound section of roadway just a few yards north of the large branch.
