Lady Cougars drop scrimmage game to Fairdale, 11-7

Playing their final scrimmage game before the start of the regular season, the Lady Cougar softball team dropped an 11-7 decision to the Fairdale Lady Bulldogs Friday at the Cougar softball complex.

Sophomore Audrey Killion started in the circle for the Lady Cougars and pitched four innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked three. Sophomore Mallory Lindsey pitched the final three innings, allowing three runs on three hits. She struck out six and walked no one.

The Lady Bulldogs batted around in the first inning against Killion, scoring five times on three hits.

The Lady Cougars left the bases loaded in their half of the first without scoring. In the second the Lady Cougars sent nine batters to the plate and scored four times. Extra hitter, sophomore Maddie Schultz, drove in a pair of runs with a single to right, and senior Autumn Riggs drove in another with a single. The Lady Cougars left two runners in scoring position when junior Madelyn Henning struck out to end the inning.

The Lady Bulldogs added two more runs in the third, only one of them earned, to make it 7-4.

The Lady Cougars made it 7-6 with two runs in their half of the third on the second two-run single by Schultz, this one coming after two were out.

The Lady Bulldogs added a run in the fourth to make it 8-6 on back-to-back, two-out doubles by Haley Brown and Hailey Krebs.

Fairdale added two more runs in the sixth to make it 10-6 on a double by Milana Carter and a single by Krebs.

In their half of the sixth, the Cougars added a run after two were out to make it 10-7. Freshman Kassidy Chaffins singled leading off the inning, stole second base, then scored on a two-out single by senior Brianna Dennis.

Finally, the Lady Bulldogs scored their last run in the seventh when Mazie Robertson grounded out to drive in Lana Maupin, who had doubled leading off the inning, then stole third base.

The Lady Cougars will kick off their regular season this afternoon at 5:30 when they host the Breckinridge County Lady Tigers.
