K105 reported Wednesday afternoon that the Shell station on South Main Street in Morgantown was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning, giving Butler County two armed robberies in just over two months.

Wednesday morning’s robbery, which occurred at approximately 3:40, was perpetrated by a white male who appears from surveillance photos to be in his mid- to late-20s. The suspect has dark hair and a dark beard. He was wearing tight, white jean-type pants (possibly skinny jeans), a white shirt, white tennis shoes, and a dark hooded jacket.

While law enforcement has not said there is a connection between the two robberies, the suspect in Wednesday’s robbery is somewhat similar to the description of one of the suspects in the armed robbery of Vanburen’s Market at 5740 Caneyville Road (Hwy 79) between Morgantown and Caneyville on February 10.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that one of the suspects in the Vanburen’s robbery was wearing “white skinny jeans and a dark hoodie” and appeared to be “slender” and “young.” Both suspects wore masks.

The suspects in the Vanburen’s robbery reportedly fled the scene north on Hwy 79 in a blue SUV (possibly a Volvo), while the suspect in the Shell robbery was driving a dark colored Ford Mustang with dual racing stripes, according to Morgantown Police Chief Giles Taylor.

Anyone with information on either armed robbery is asked to contact local law enforcement.
