1 person dead, 2 missing after pleasure boat collides with tugboat during Thunder Over Louisville

One person is dead and two boaters are missing after a pleasure boat collided with a tugboat pulling a barge Saturday night on the Ohio River.

The accident occurred at approximately 10:00, near the end of the Thunder Over Louisville fireworks display.

Seven people were on the boat when the accident occurred near Greenwood Boat Dock, in the Pleasure Ridge Park (PRP) area of Louisville.

The agencies searching for the missing man and woman include the U.S. Coast Guard, Louisville Metro Police Department, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife and PRP Fire Department. As of Sunday, 66 people were searching the river.

After the collision, people working on the barge jumped in the 57-degree water and pulled five people from the river. One of the people rescued later died. His name has not yet been released.

On Sunday, sonar boats were dispatched to check a nine-mile area around where the accident occurred.

The injured boaters were transported to the University of Louisville Hospital.
