With the beginning of the spring sports season, Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith says his department will be a presence both on foot at the Clarkson Ballpark and around the park monitoring for reckless and speeding drivers.

The Clarkson Police welcomes the opening of the Clarkson Ballpark this 2021 playing season,” Meredith said in a statement. “Our department loves watching and interacting with children and young adults on any positive basis, and our city’s sports complex gives us ample opportunities to do so. Throughout the season, our officers will be seen conducting foot patrol through the ballpark and will make routine vehicle patrols on the city streets around the park.”

Meredith said his department has received “several complaints of speeders traveling on Old Leitchfield Road, traveling in the direction of the ballpark.”

The chief reminds motorists the speed limit on Old Leitchfield Road is 20 mph “beginning at the red light (at Millerstown Road) and continuing (for) the duration” of the roadway.

“We hope everyone enjoys their time at the ballpark, but for the safety of the residents of the surrounding community, please watch your speed through this area,” Meredith stated. “CKPD officers will be HEAVILY conducting speed and distracted driving enforcement on Old Leitchfield Road during the next few months.”

Questions regarding this issue should be directed to the Clarkson Police Department at 270-242-1601, or call Clarkson City Hall at 270-242-6997 and press 2 for the police department.
