A Hardin County man has been arrested for twice strangling a woman.

Kentucky State Police arrested 39-year-old Kevin L. Caldwell, of Elizabethtown, and charged him with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault (dating violence). According to The News-Enterprise, the arrest citation states that Caldwell began arguing with a woman in her bedroom when he was told to leave. He initially left the room but returned and knocked items off a dresser, striking the victim in the face.

Caldwell then hit the woman, got on top of her and “grabbed her by the neck and began to strangle her,” according to the citation. Caldwell freed the victim just before she lost consciousness.

The victim then told a juvenile to call police, which spurred Caldwell to again begin strangling the woman. When Caldwell recognized the child was talking to authorities, he let the woman go.

Caldwell was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center but has posted a partially secured $25,000 bond.
