A Butler County man led police on a pursuit with speeds reaching nearly 150 miles per hour before running out of gas.

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:00, Kentucky State Police clocked 47-year-old Steven E. Alford, of Roundhill, driving 143 mph in a 2015 Ford Mustang on the eastbound Bluegrass Parkway, police said. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit before the chase came to an end at the 30 mile marker after Alford ran out of gas.

Upon police making contact with Alford, he “refused to exit the vehicle and had to be assisted by sheriff’s deputies and KSP,” according to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office.

Alford was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), resisting arrest, driving on a suspended/revoked license, speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, and improper passing.

He was lodged in the Nelson County Detention Center.
