A Leitchfield man arrested on an outstanding warrant has threatened to “murder” two Leitchfield police officers, their families and emergency room staff.

On Sunday afternoon at 3:15, Leitchfield Police Officers Chase Melton and Kelsey Overton arrested 40-year-old Jerry Stivers on an outstanding warrant issued by Grayson County Circuit Court.

As Melton was transporting Stivers to the Grayson County Detention Center, the suspect banged his head against the cruiser’s cage, cutting himself, according to the arrest citation. Melton then rerouted to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center to obtain treatment for Stivers.

Once at the emergency room, the citation states that Stivers threatened to “murder” Melton, Overton and the ER staff. Additionally, he spit at Melton and attempted to kick an ER nurse.

After receiving treatment, according to the citation, Stivers was transported to the detention center where he attempted to kick Melton as the officer was removing him from his police vehicle, as Stivers continued to resist until placed in restraints.

In addition to the warrant, Stivers was charged with two counts of third-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree assault (ems, fire, rescue squad), third-degree terroristic threatening, and second-degree disorderly conduct.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
