
Kentucky State Police has released the identity of the pilot killed in an eastern Kentucky plane crash.
Police said 62-year-old Timothy M. Pankiewicz, of Green Cove, Florida, died when his single-engine plane went down in Breathitt County, about 10 miles north of Jackson. Pankiewicz was the lone occupant of the plane.
The plane was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived on the scene about 2:00 Monday afternoon. The aircraft went down in clear weather.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board arrived on scene Tuesday to determine the cause of the crash.
State police said the flight originated in Florida with an Ohio destination.
