The Grayson County Cougars split a pair of games Monday in games played at South Warren High School.

In the first game, the Cougars gave up a seven-point lead with a little over two minutes left to play, then lost in a sudden-death overtime 43-42 to Taylor County.

In the second game, the Cougars blew out Logan County 58-28.

TAYLOR COUNTY

This was a close, back-and-forth game, with neither team holding a large lead, until the Cougars put together a 7-0 run that gave them a 40-33 lead with 4:37 remaining to be played.

Neither team would score for more than two minutes before Taylor County would close out the game with a 9-2 run to tie the game at 42-42 and send it to a sudden-death overtime, where the first team to score would win.

Taylor County won the jump and put up a couple of shots that missed, but the Cougars were called for a foul, sending Taylor to the line for two shots. The Taylor player missed the first free throw, but buried the second to give the Cardinals the win.

Junior River Blanton led the Cougars with 13 points and added four rebounds. Chandler McCrady scored nine points, while two players, Owen Bratcher and Hunter Tomes had six apiece. Bratcher led the Cougars on the boards with seven rebounds, and Tomes had six.

Keegan Sharp finished with five points, and Brayden Childress closed out the scoring with three points.

LOGAN COUNTY

When Logan County hit a three-pointer with 4:15 left in the first half, they trailed by just three points, 18-15. That’s when Grayson County went to work, closing out the half with 14 unanswered points, including back-to-back threes by Keegan Sharp, to lead by 17 points at the half, 32-15.

Grayson County then opened the second half with a 14-4 run that pushed the lead to 27 points, 46-19 with under 16 minutes to play and Logan was never closer than 24 points afterward.

River Blanton led the Cougars with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Sharp finished with 16 points. Nolan Hornbeck came off the bench to score six points and grab four rebounds.

Hunter Tomes finished with five points and three boards, while three players, Owen Bratcher, Chandler McCrady, and Dillon Horn all finished with four points. Bratcher added seven rebounds, while Horn had six.

Closing out the scoring for the Cougars was freshman Hayden Robinson, with two points.
