A Laurel County father has been arrested after getting into a shootout with his daughter’s boyfriend, resulting in two people being shot.
Early Thursday morning, 50-year-old Jeffrey Smith, of London, began arguing with his daughter’s boyfriend in Smith’s driveway. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said Smith fired a weapon in the direction of his daughter and her boyfriend, resulting in the boyfriend returning fire.
As the two men shot at each other, a woman who lives with Smith was shot in the leg. The daughter’s boyfriend was shot twice in the arm.
The injured woman was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center while the boyfriend was transported to St. Joseph Hospital – London.
Smith was charged with attempted murder and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said there are no plans to charge the boyfriend.
