A Morgantown woman has been indicted for murdering a man in the 2700 block of Caneyville Road (Hwy 79) in May.
Samantha J. Stewart, 44, was indicted by a Butler County Grand Jury for murder and tampering with physical evidence in the May 2021 death of 57-year-old Michael Embry, of Morgantown.
According to a report by the Bowling Green Daily News, Stewart told police that during an altercation she wrapped a belt around Embry’s neck and stabbed him multiple times after he made unwanted sexual advances at a residence at 2739 Caneyville Road. Stewart told police she woke up to find Embry on top of her, spurring the argument.
An autopsy showed Embry had been stabbed six times.
Embry’s body was discovered by police under a pile of clothes in a bathroom on May 12. He had been reported missing by his family on May 11. Embry was killed on either May 8 or 9, according to the indictment, the newspaper reports.
Stewart was located and arrested on May 13 at a residence on Hwy 70, in Butler County.
She was also indicted for possession of a controlled substance and is being held in the Butler County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
