A goal in the 74th minute of play salvaged a tie in Thursday’s soccer season opener against the North Bullitt Eagles.
Grayson County had led 1-0 at the half thanks to a goal by Bahaa Masri in the 28th minute of play. Masri had taken a pass about 30 yards out on the right side of the Eagle net and put a crossing shot into the left side of the goal.
The Eagles tied the score 13 minutes into the second half, then took a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute when the Cougar defense allowed a loose ball in front of goal keeper Jackson Kane, and an Eagle forward left-footed it into the Cougar goal.
With time running out. the Cougars put a rush on the Eagle goal with six minutes left, when Will Meredith burst out of a crowd in front of the goal and put a bullet past the Eagle defenders to tie things at 2-2 Neither team came close to a goal in the remaining minutes.
The Cougar soccer team will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to Monroe County. That game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
