A residence under construction in Clarkson has been the target of an arsonist.

Thursday night at approximately 9:55, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jason Luedke was in Clarkson when he happened upon a small fire at a residence under construction in the 400 block of South Patterson Street. Within minutes, the Clarkson Fire Department and Constable Bill Dalton arrived at the scene.

Initial reports indicate at least one person was seen running from the area immediately before the fire was discovered.

Once inside the partially built home, firefighters discovered someone, or possibly more than one person, had started a small fire on the first floor of the two-story, wood-frame structure.

The smell of accelerant was heavy in the air inside the structure, as it appears the suspect[s] started a fire by pouring an unknown type of fuel onto a box containing anchor bolts.  The small fire left burn marks on plywood and 2x4s immediately adjacent to where the fire was started.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office began investigating immediately. K105 will have more information on this story in the coming hours.
