A young boy has been killed in a propane tank explosion and fire.

Seven-year-old Jesse R. Yoder was killed Tuesday night around 5:40 near Crab Orchard in Lincoln County when a pilot light sparked a propane explosion and fire at an Amish residence.

One of the eight children who live at the home saw flames and smoke coming from what the Amish refer to as a washroom; a converted garage with a refrigerator, stove and washing machine, all powered by propane. Three or four of the children were in the home when the explosion occurred, according to media outlets, and the childrens’ mother was in the backyard working.

The children inside made it out, except for Jesse who was found deceased in the washroom.

Kentucky State Police investigators think there was a propane leak in the washroom, which came into contact with a flame from a pilot light, sparking the explosion and fire.

The fire quickly spread to other areas of the house, destroying the structure.
