The visiting Daviess County Lady Panthers took a 2-0 (23-25, 21-25) win Thursday over the Lady Cougars at the Cougar Den.
The first set was a nip-and-tuck affair. The Lady Panthers held the lead in the early going, but trailing by a point, 9-10, junior Allie Dotson took the serve and aided by two kills each from junior Lillie Payne and sophomore Riley Penner, took a 13-10 lead.
The Lady Cougars held the lead until junior Lexi Owen took the serve with her team trailing by a point, 21-20. Junior Josie Newcom had two kills in a four-point run that took it to set point, 21-24 before Penner put away a kill to stave off the first-set loss.
Penner took the serve and Grayson County scored a point on a Daviess hitting error, but junior Kayla Thompson put away a kill to give the set to the Lady Panthers.
Grayson County never led in the second set, though they stayed close throughout. They trailed by four, 19-23 when Payne took the serve for the Lady Cougars.
Raigan Cave had a kill and a Daviess hitting error made it 21-23 before Newcom put away a kill to take it to match-point. The Lady Cougars were then whistled for a double hit to give the match to the visitors.
