The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) is offering Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots for those who are eligible.
The health department said the booster shots are available for those who earlier received the Pfizer vaccine. The booster is to be given six months after receiving the final of the regular Pfizer vaccine shots.
The GCHD said the following people are eligible for the booster shot:
- Those with a weakened immune system
- Those who are 65-years-old or older
- Those who are 18- to 64-years-old with a medical condition that could increase the severity of a COVID infection
- Those 18- to 64-years old who are likely to be exposed to the virus on their jobs (e.g., frontline, healthcare and education workers), or if one lives in a congregate setting (e.g., nursing home, assisted living facility).
The Pfizer booster shot will be available Thursday at the Grayson County Public Library from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and again from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. The library is at 163 Carroll Gibson Boulevard in Leitchfield.
First doses of all vaccines will also be available.
Anyone who is immunocompromised and received the Moderna vaccine is eligible to receive a third dose of the vaccine three weeks after receiving the second dose.
“This is the only reason someone should receive a third dose of the Moderna vaccine at this time,” according to the health department.
