The Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team said it’s “nothing short of a miracle” after a four-year-old boy survived a 70 foot fall at Red River Gorge.

“While hiking near Princess Arch, a four-year-old boy slipped away from his parents and took a tumbling fall off a cliff” at approximately 2:00 Friday afternoon, the agency said in a social media post.

The boy struck multiple ledges and encountered sheer drops of more than 30 feet, as he fell a total of 70 feet.

He astonishingly suffered only scrapes and bruises, officials said.

After the boy fell, his father “sprang into action” as he raced down the face of the cliff, reaching his son. The father then carried the boy down a hill and across the Sheltowee Trace suspension bridge to Hwy 715 where Wolfe County rescuers rendezvoused with the father and son.

Officials said the boy was “very talkative and very interested in superheroes (but) the only superhero present was him.”

After being evaluated by EMS personnel, the boy was released to his parents.
