A man and his mother have been killed in an eastern Kentucky house fire.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in the Payne Gap area of Letcher County Friday morning at approximately 5:00.
“First in units found there were two people unaccounted for,” Jenkins Fire Department Captain James Stephens told WYMT.com. “We did an initial attack, a primary search, the primary search was negative at the time.”
As firefighters battled the blaze, a body was found inside the home. A second body was found after the blaze was extinguished.
The fire was so hot, officials said, it burned two cars in the driveway, as the home also suffered a partial roof collapse.
The two deceased individuals were identified as 42-year-old George E. Blevins Jr., and his mother, 71-year-old Patsy Blevins.
Officials do not yet know how the fire began as the investigation continues.
