A Big Clifty woman arrested last year for stealing mail out of Clarkson residents’ mailboxes has been jailed on drug charges after a traffic stop.

Wednesday night at approximately 9:00, Clarkson Officer Blake Elmore stopped a vehicle at 124 West Main Street for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the driver, 43-year-old Kelly R. Higdon, Elmore searched the vehicle and located methamphetamine, multiple and different types of pills, a methamphetamine precursor and marijuana.

Higdon was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), three counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, drug unspecified), prescription controlled substance not in its proper container, unlawful distribution of a methamphetamine precursor, trafficking in marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and disregarding a traffic control device.

Higdon was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Leitchfield Police Officers Kelsey Overton and Adam Cottrell, and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Clay Boone, assisted at the scene.

In a story previously published by K105, Hidgdon’s passenger, 34-year-old Wallace Mercer, of Grayson County, was arrested on multiple drug and gun charges at the same traffic stop. He was also served with multiple arrest warrants.

In November 2020, Higdon was arrested by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office for stealing and then tossing mail she took from multiple mailboxes.

All the mail Higdon was accused of stealing was taken from Millerstown Street addresses and was found scattered on St. Paul Road, Spurrier Road and Salt River Road along with other locations, according to the arrest citation.

She was charged with possession of stolen mail, resisting arrest and criminal littering.
