A fire has inflicted major damage on a Short Creek home.

Tuesday night at 5:00, the Falls of Rough and Leitchfield Fire Departments responded to fire in the 12800 block of Owensboro Road. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found dense, black smoke coming from the attic and back of the home.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the back two rooms of the wood-frame structure, but much of home suffered smoke and water damage.

Both Falls Fire Chief David Mercer and Leitchfield FD Chief Tim Duvall said the fire was electrical in nature, with Duvall saying, “The fire was definitely electrical.”

Duvall said a “bundle of wires” found in one of the back rooms was the likely source of the blaze.

No injuries were reported and firefighters cleared the scene at about 7:00 p.m.
