A longtime first grade teacher in Pulaski County has died of COVID-19.

Stephanie Foster, 40, died on Tuesday. Foster’s death marks the first COVID-related death within the Pulaski County School District.

Foster taught at Burnside Elementary for 15 years. She began her teaching career at Shopville Elementary School where she taught for two years.

“This sort of just knocks you back a few steps,” Superintendent Patrick Richardson said. “It makes it hit home.”

Richardson told news outlets that Foster was a technology expert, and leader in the district, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, as she helped other teachers adapt their classrooms to online learning and offering to familiarize the instructors with the school’s remote learning programs.

Over 50 Kentucky school district employees have died after contracting the virus.
