The “interim” tagged attached to Grayson County High School interim Principal Lacy Cox’s title can now be removed as she has been selected as the new principal at the high school.

The GCHS School-Based Decision Making Council selected Cox as the new principal on Friday. She was chosen as the interim principal in November 2021 when it was announced that then-Principal Josh Baldwin was promoted to Director of Pupil Personnel for Grayson County Schools. Baldwin replaced the retiring Sonny Prunty.

A 2002 GCHS graduate, Cox was always a very involved student who “loved the high school,” school officials said in November.

“Lacy is a tremendous asset to Grayson County Schools and to GCHS,” Superintendent Doug Robinson said when Cox was hired as interim principal. “Her creativity and passions for learning and for people make her a perfect fit for this role.”

Cox taught briefly at Grayson County Middle School, and was soon teaching freshman science at GCHS, officials said. During that time, she earned her Master’s in Library Science and later a Rank I in Administration, including principal certification along with DPP and Instructional Supervisor.

After four years in the classroom, Cox became Library Media Specialist for the school, working closely with the administrative team on school wide projects, including culture.

“I’m just a big culture person,” she said at the time. “I want the faculty and students to enjoy coming here. If they do, then test scores, readiness, discipline, everything else will pretty much take care of itself. I want to be supportive, and I’m going to do whatever is needed. I’m not going to ask our staff to do anything I’m not going to do.”

K105 will have more information on Cox’s selection early next week.
