An Elizabethtown woman has agreed to a plea deal in the murder of her mother, who once lived in Grayson County.
Krystal Erbelding, 35, agreed to a 22-year sentence offered by the Hardin County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
Erbelding was originally charged with complicity to commit murder, complicity to commit first-degree burglary and complicity to commit abuse of a corpse in the shooting death of her mother, 63-year-old Kathy Erbelding, on April 30, 2020.
She faced life in prison if found guilty of those charges.
After consulting with Kathy Erbelding’s family, prosecutors offered to amend the murder charge to criminal facilitation to commit murder with a set five-year penalty; 12 years to serve for the robbery charge and five years to serve on the abuse of corpse charge with all sentences run consecutively for 22 years, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.
Kathy Erbelding, who was blind, was shot once in the head and abdomen and left in the basement of the Elizabethtown home — on Wise Lane near Towne Mall — she shared with her daughter. The victim was shot by 29-year-old Jacob Lugmayer, of Radcliff, in coordination with Krystal Erbelding.
Krystal Erbelding, police said, transferred $700 from her mother’s bank account into her own, and admitted to investigators that she purchased the gun used to kill her mother with the money.
According to online records, the Erbelding’s formerly resided in Grayson County. It’s unclear how long ago or for how long the pair lived in the county.
Lugmayer was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in December 2021.
