The Grayson County High School Football Alumni Association (GCHSFAA) has named Hunter Tomes as the winner of the third annual Doug Thompson Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship is given by the GCHSFAA and is worth $500. The qualifications can go to any member of the team who plans to continue their education through an undergraduate degree program or certification from a college, university, or technical school. They also require the individual to go “above and beyond in representing the program and community.”
Tomes is the son of Joey and Scerena and has signed to play college football at Lindsey Wilson.
“He’s a great kid with a phenomenal work ethic,” Grayson County head football coach Bryan Jones said. “He’s very fortunate with his athletic ability that God blessed with him. He’s done a great job at maximizing that.”
Tomes joins Cooper Terry and Zack Bratcher as winners of the scholarship.
For the first time, the association also named Kaylor Decker and Ben Rogers as “Cougar Difference Makers.” The award gives them a $250 scholarship.
Decker will play college football at Greenville University while Rogers will attend the University of Kentucky.
The awards were presented at Wednesday night’s team banquet. There, the GCHSFAA also presented the football program with a $500 check.
Every year, funds for the scholarship are received through private donations and through a yearly raffle during basketball season.
