A man accused of committing an armed robbery and then shooting an Owensboro police officer has been captured after a manhunt.

The Owensboro Police Department said that on Saturday night at approximately 8:55, officers were dispatched to a suspicious person call at Eagle’s convenience store at 1816 Triplett Street.

The suspicious individual, later identified at 32-year-old Bronson T. Lindsey, of Rockport, Indiana, and his vehicle matched the description from an earlier robbery at Franey’s Food Mart at 217 E. 25th Street, police said.

While being questioned, Lindsey became agitated and had a “physical altercation with officers.” During the altercation, Lindsey fired one round from a handgun he had concealed, striking an Owensboro officer.

Lindsey then stole the injured officer’s cruiser, according to police.

The unidentified officer was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital suffering what police thought to be non-life threatening injuries.

The stolen cruiser was recovered a short time later in Spencer County, Indiana.

A manhunt for Lindsey ensued in Spencer County, Indiana (just across the Ohio River from Owensboro), with police locating and arresting the suspect Sunday morning at approximately 5:15.

Lindsey was lodged in the Spencer County Jail as he awaits extradition.

He has been charged with first-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree robbery, felony wanton endangerment of a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, theft by unlawful taking (automobile), and receiving stolen property (firearm).

Numerous law enforcement agencies assisted in the search for Lindsey, including the Spencer County (IN) Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Jasper (IN) Police Department, and Santa Claus (IN) Police Department.
