The Edmonson County Wildcats eliminated the Cougars from further 12th District competition on Monday, 12-2 in five innings. Edmonson sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored five times against starter and loser Gage Napier, on their way to the win.

Napier gave up a three-run home run to first-baseman Andrew Talley and a two-run single to second-baseman Cole Saling in the inning.

Napier was replaced on the mound by Landon Shiarella with two outs in the first inning. Shiarella gave up three runs on three hits and struck out one. Shiarelola was replaced by Jack Logsdon in the third inning and gave up four runs on three hits.

The Cougars put two runners on in the third inning, but Eli Watson flew out to end the inning. Grayson County got on the board in the fourth inning on a two-out single by Chandler McCrady, two stolen bases, and an error by second-baseman Cole Saling. Catcher Michael Mills drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk.

Jeren VanMeter led off the fourth with a home run to give the Cougars some hope, but the Wildcats scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to make it 8-2.

Then in the fifth, the Cats put up four more runs to win by the run-rule. Mills drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk with two outs.

The Cats will play Whitesville in today’s championship matchup after the Raiders upset top-seeded Butler County in the second game 8-5.
