An eastern Kentucky woman has been hospitalized after being attacked by her boyfriend with a machete.
The Williamsburg Police Department responded to the 200 block of South 2nd Street early Sunday morning and found that a female had been attacked by 31-year-old Darryl A. Earls, of Williamsburg.
Police said Earls attacked his girlfriend with a machete, striking her in the head and face multiple times in addition to striking her body with the weapon.
The victim was airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center where she is in critical condition.
Police made contact with Earls, who was covered in blood, at the residence. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder (domestic violence) and first-degree assault (domestic violence) and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
Late Saturday night, prior to Earls attacking his girlfriend, police were dispatched to a domestic dispute between Earls and the victim. Police, though, said the female denied being assaulted and no arrest was made.
The investigation continues and is being led by the Williamsburg PD.
