A Grayson County man arrested on his second DUI charge is facing felony drug charges after being caught trying to bring methamphetamine into the Grayson County Detention Center.

Friday night at approximately 11:30, Leitchfield Police Officer DJ Newton, who was stationary along with other law enforcement officers at the BP gas station at 227 South Main Street, observed 49-year-old Howard L. Hubbard enter the business parking lot in a white truck in a reckless manner, as Hubbard nearly struck a parked EMS ambulance, police said.

Newton made contact with Hubbard and due to his erratic behavior, immediately had reason to believe the suspect was under the influence of narcotics. Hubbard was given a field sobriety test and arrested.

He was transported to the Grayson County Detention Center, and while being processed into the facility, detention center staff located a baggie of methamphetamine on the suspect.

As a result, in addition to the DUI (non-alcohol) charge, Hubbard was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and promoting contraband, both felonies.

Deputy Sean Fentress assisted at the scene. LPD Sgt. Keith Harrell and Grayson County Sgt. Jason Luedke also assisted at the scene until they were dispatched to other calls.
